Job Description

The Bioeconomy Institute (BEI) at Iowa State University leads the nation and world in establishing the bioeconomy, where society obtains renewable fuel, energy, chemicals, and materials from agricultural sources, supporting environmentally and economically sustainable solutions. The Institute engages faculty and stakeholders focused on research projects related to biorenewable resources and biobased products. The position will serve a key role in supporting BEI's engineering and agriculture-focused research teams.

The Grants Specialist II will specialize in BEI post-award grants and contracts administration, leading project financial management for a core group of BEI faculty, staff, and affiliates. This new position is an exciting opportunity to join our growing team!

 

Responsibilities Include

  • Coordinates BEI post-award activities relating to grants and contracts
  • Establishes and monitors a high volume of award lines
  • Updates and communicates budget projections
  • Reviews, corrects, and approves award expenses, processing financial transactions
  • Oversees BEI costing allocations and cost share commitments
  • Advises on expense allowability and appropriateness
  • Assists with financial reporting and audit verifications confirming award compliance as needed
  • Documents standard operating procedures and best practices for BEI post-award management
  • Communicates award status updates to Principal Investigators and the BEI leadership team
  • Participates in trainings to stay current with ISU and sponsor requirements, policies, procedures, and systems

This position is a key contributor to the BEI administrative team and will support our interdisciplinary research teams. Candidates should have strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills. Additional skills beneficial to research administration include time management, attention to detail, and adaptability. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
