Winners of the third annual juried competition for art that represents the mission of the Bioeconomy Institute (BEI) at Iowa State University were announced Apr. 20, 2012. Iowa State undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Integrated Studio Arts or Integrated Visual Arts were eligible to enter. Jurors were JaneAnn Stout, a retired former associate dean in the College of Human Sciences; and Lou Cathcart, the owner of PostSprawl Design, an interior design company.

The best-in-show and $750 went to Sean Roper for Metamorphosis. First place and $350 went to Celinda Stamy for Oil and Rust (left), while Kelsey Gill took second place and $250 with Tangled Web of Life (center), a mixed-media piece made of denim. Reed Counts and Blake Evans won third place and $150 with their entry entitled Desk Hammock (right), a recliner made out of reclaimed plywood and paper rolls.
