Dr. Lisa Schulte Moore honored as AAAS Fellow
Dr. Lisa Schulte Moore is a member of the AAAS Fellows Class of 2024. Schulte Moore, Bioeconomy Institute co-director, is recognized for, "distinguished contributions to landscape ecology, particularly for creating more sustainable agricultural systems." She is one of nine honorees this year from Iowa State.

Iowa State’s entrepreneurial ecosystem helps two energy startups set their paths
Rise Energy started by three staffers in Iowa State’s Bioeconomy Institute is using a unique pyrolysis technology they helped develop to convert most any kind of biomass into a liquid oil for energy and a solid char for fertilizer. Those three staffers are Tannon Daugaard, a research engineer for the university and chief technology officer for the company; Funkhouser, a research scientist for the university and chief operations officer for the company; and Ryan Smith, a senior research manager for the university and chief executive officer for the company.

Dr. Robert Brown joins National Academy of Engineering
Dr. Robert C. Brown is a new member of the National Academy of Engineering! Brown is recognized for engineering processes for controlled oxidation of lignocellulosic biomass and plastic wastes into low-carbon-footprint energy, fuels, and chemicals.

Prairie Strips Featured on NBC News
Bioeconomy Institute's Dr. Lisa Schulte Moore and several members of the STRIPS team were featured on NBC News for their efforts to expand prairie strip acres across the Midwest! Farmers in Iowa have added prairie strips alongside rows of corn and soybeans to help halt serious environmental challenges inherent to farming.
