Participants will have the opportunity to visit different tour sites throughout the program. Examples are as follows:
The BioCentury Research Farm at Iowa state University is the first-in-the-nation integrated research and demonstration farm devoted to biomass production and processing. The New Century Farm provides researchers with the opportunity to integrate harvesting, transportation, storage, and processing. The Farm will also offer facilities for outreach programming and industry collaboration.
The BioCentury Research Farm is located 10 miles west of Ames on the existing Agronomy and Agricultural and Biosystems Research Farm. The site was selected for its rural setting and high visibility with easy access. Research at the 23,000 square foot Biomass Processing Facility will address some of the most critical questions facing the biorenewables industry. Biomass crops destined for use as biofuels and bioproducts will be grown onsite and at other area Iowa State Research Farms.
The facilities will link new discoveries, integration of science and real-world situations and scale-up for commercialization. Researchers will be able to study systems to turn a variety of biomass feedstocks into bio-oil or synthetic gas using thermochemical technologies, ethanol and industrial chemicals by fermentation, or integrated systems using thermochemical and fermentation technologies. The facility will allow Iowa State researchers and industry partners to test and demonstrate processing system technologies before going to commercial scale.

Lincolnway Energy, LLC was formed for the purpose of building, owning and operating a dry mill fuel ethanol plant to be located near Nevada, Iowa. Lincolnway Energy
Board of Directors determined that the production facility should be designed for 50 million gallon annual capacity and that coal should replace natural gas as the plants primary power source. Their mission is to provide clean renewable energy, maintain a safe and rewarding place to work and maximize shareholder value.

Bridging the gaps between laboratory research and real world applications is a hallmark of the Iowa Energy Center. In this tradition, the Energy Center created the Biomass Energy CONversion facility (BECON), located in Nevada, Iowa. BECON is a focal point for developing value-added products from Iowa's abundant biomass resources. It provides credible, firsthand information on biomass technologies to create fuels and chemicals, as well as demonstrations of pilot-scale biomass conversion systems.
